EarlyDike aims at an innovative and intelligent risk- and sensor-based early warning-system for coastal and estuarine dikes, which takes all influencing factors into account. By the use of intelligent geotextiles, a dike monitoring system is constructed. The central access point for the end user (e.g. fire brigade) is a web-based dike GeoPortal which provides access to both, real-time sensor data and external loads. In addition, the results of the hydrodynamic analysis and simulation tools as well as notification and alert functionalities will be integrated to ensure an effective disaster management. The research project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and runs for a total of 36 months. Within the five work-packages six research groups are involved. Moreover, partners from industry and administration are incorporated into the project to allow for successful knowledge transfer and implementation of research results in practice.
